Jim Lockhart 74: Jim Lockhart is the only Spartan alumnus to return as an administrator as he currently serves as an assistant principal at Greenbrier East. Prior to his administrative duties, he was a member of the Social Studies department on the GEHS faculty. Jim is a former athlete and coach for the Spartans. Jeff Zopp 79: Jeff Zopp is the definition of student-athlete. In football, he was Special Honorable Mention All-State, First team All-Coalfield Conference, Second team All-Southern West Virginia and a member of the Covington-Virginian All-Area Football Team. He had a one-time school record 87-yard reception at Greenbrier West in 1978 and played in the North-South football game in 1979. In basketball, he was twice named All-Coalfield Conference and honorable mention All-State, and while receiving the Al Morgan Memorial basketball award. He was voted Spartan Boy by the Greenbrier East faculty, and was the Valedictorian of his senior class. From the Class of 1979, Jeff Zopp.
Doug Beard 80: Doug Beard was a three-year basketball letterman. He was a two-time All-Coalfield Conference selection and was Honorable Mention All-State. In 1980, he was the Associated Press State Player of the Week and a multiple recipient of the Beckley Newspapers Player of the Week award. As a senior, the Spartans began the season 13-0, were ranked #1 in the state, and finished undefeated at home. Doug broke Lester Tharps school record when he made 14/14 free throws, while scoring a career-high 28 points against Greenbrier West in 1980. He is a member of the Lewisburg Volunteer Fire Department, a former Chief Deputy of the Greenbrier County Sheriffs Department and is currently serving his second term as a Magistrate in Greenbrier County. James Keys 84: James Keys was a four-sport athlete who lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He was an All-Coalfield Conference selection in basketball and baseball. James also set a Greenbrier East Track & Field school-record high jump of six-feet, six-inches. He would like to thank all of his coaches, especially Jay Dyche and Peck Dorsey. James continues to be involved in Spartan athletics today, having served as an assistant coach on the Greenbrier East Boys Basketball team since 1996. From the Class of 1984, James Keys.
Kevin Given 85: Kevin Given was a member of first-ever football playoff team in 1984 and state basketball tournament semifinalist in 1985. He was a first-team All-Coalfield Conference and honorable mention All-State selection in 1985. Kevin was a three-year basketball letterman and two-year baseball letterman. He went on to play basketball one year at Emory & Henry where he was ODAC Conference Freshman of the Year, then later transferred and played baseball at Concord College for three years. Jimmy Knapp 85: Jimmy Knapp has the unique distinction of joining Bimbo Coles as Greenbrier Easts first-ever First-Team All-State representatives of the Spartan football team. He was the starting center on the schools first-ever football playoff team and Coalfield Conference Championship team in 1984. Jimmy has been a youth league coach in football, baseball, and softball, while being a member of the White Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department since 1993. From the Class of 1985, Jimmy Knapp.
Tracy McCrory 86: Tracy McCrory was a two-year letterman in three sports: Basketball, Volleyball and Track. She was a member of the Lady Spartan Basketball team that participated in two state tournaments, receiving Honorable Mention All-State both years. She held the school Shot Put Record for 11 years and received the Female Dedication award for her Junior and Senior years. Tracy attended Alderson-Broaddus College on a basketball scholarship and received a degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech. She has been the assistant Girls Basketball coach at Eastern Greenbrier Middle School for the last 12 years and the Head Volleyball coach for nine years. Tracy is employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Beckley and is working toward her Masters Degree in Professional Counseling at Liberty University. From the Class of 1986, Tracy McCrory.
Junior Bostic 89: Junior Bostic was a two-year letterman in basketball and football, while earning Honorable Mention All-State and All-Coalfield Conference honors. In basketball, he averaged 19 points per game in basketball his senior year and scored a career high of 32 points when East upset the #1-ranked South Charleston Black Eagles in 1988. He was also the recipient of the Al Morgan Award. In football, Junior started at quarterback as a senior and helped lead the Spartans to the schools only undefeated regular season and an appearance in the Class AAA State Championship game. He completed over 65% of his pass attempts and had over 200 yards passing, threw two touchdown passes and ran for one touchdown when Greenbrier East beat Stonewall Jackson for the first, and only, time in school history. Ronnie Cole 89: Ronnie Cole earned First-Team All-State honors as a center in football on Greenbrier Easts only undefeated team in 1988, while appearing in the Class AAA State Championship game. He went to earn a football scholarship from the University of Richmond before finishing his career at West Virginia Tech. Ronnie is a United States Army Veteran, having served as a co-pilot/navigator in OH-58 Scout and Reconnaissance helicopters. He is an ordained minister and currently serves as the Operations Director for HELP Ministries, a mission outreach of the First Baptist Church of Brandon, Florida. Suzy Sartor 93: Suzy Sartor was a three-year starter in basketball for Greenbrier East. She was twice named Special Honorable Mention All-State and First Team All-Coalfield Conference. Selected as team captain her senior year, Suzy was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the Pizza Hut Classic in 1992. She attended West Virginia University on a full athletic scholarship and was a member of the Mountaineer womens basketball team for three seasons and recorded a school-record eight blocked shots in one contest. She traveled to Europe on a summer basketball tour as a representative of the Atlantic-10 Conference and was invited to the 1996 USA Olympic basketball team tryouts.
